I was inspired by the shape of Shogi pieces, a Japanese chess variant invented in the 15th century, to create an angular modern typeface. The shape of these pieces is really what intrigues me, and influenced the design in this project.
Using the shape of a Shogi piece, I created the typography for the titles in this project. The color palette was influenced by the red in Japanese flag.
The iconography is also comprised the Shogi pieces’ shapes.
